I hope someone can be of help. My old Uniden scanner of some 15+ years finally bit the dust. Not having kept up with the technology over all these years can someone recommend a solid, reasonable in cost new scanner. I know Uniden and Radio Shack were always the two largest suppliers but are there other suppliers. Thanks in advance for the help.

Sorry for late reply. For a bit more money than a Radio Shack radio, you can get a nice handheld. Get a Yaesu FT-250R, and purchase a Diamond SRH77CA to go along with it. You might prefer a railcom antenna though with it, but I'm a bit ignorant about those.

The reception with this setup is 2x as good as my handheld radio shack setup for around the same price. I bought mine from Universal Radio, and I'm happy with them.
