Metro-North
160.770 -- [AAR channel 44] -- Grand Central Terminal stationmaster
160.350 -- [AAR channel 16] -- Grand Central Terminal tunnel emergencies
161.160 -- [AAR channel 70] -- MOW
160.410 -- [AAR channel 20] -- New Haven power department
161.220 -- [AAR channel 74] -- police
161.280 -- [AAR channel 78] -- road (Harlem line)
160.950 -- [AAR channel 56] -- road (Hudson line)
160.545 -- [AAR channel 29] -- road (New Haven line)
161.070 -- [AAR channel 64] -- shop

A few mistakes.

GCT station Masters office is AAR channel 70 (161.160).

161.070 (AAR channel 64) is actually a Conrail channel found on most MN engines and MU's, and is seldom used.

160.770 (AAR channel 44) is used for Harmon Shop.
And one of your own!!!

161.070 Mhz (AAR 64) is actually our Intra-train (Engineer to conductor/crew) channel, known as Channel 4, and sees quite a bit of usage, and actually 161.070 is NOT at Conrail channel, but a CSX channel used for Oak Point Yard, also road channel on the Fremont Industrial (Oak Point to Fresh Pond, aka Fremont) and from just west of the interlocking signal at Pelham Bay Interlocking (Amtrak Hell Gate Line) to Oak Point Yard on the Oak Point Running Track. The only other usage in the Tri-State area is NS at Croxton Yard, and the Port Jervis west of Suffern, but I do believe that might have been changed to the NJT Main Line channel, 161.400 Mhz (AAR 86).

There was a time, I heard, when MNR transmissions on 161.070 Mhz have interfered with Oak Point Yard operations due to their closeness, years ago. AFAIK, that does not happen any longer.

MNCR has been told not to use 161.070 anymore, and when radio's go in for maintenance you will slowly see that channel disapear.
This one of reasons a lot of time that Channel 4 will no longer work, as some cars have already been reprogrammed.

Thats interesting that MNR has been told not to use 161.0700 anymore, probably has to do with the fact that it isn't a licensed channel to MNR and is probably causing interference . Dutch any idea of what frequency may replace channel 4?
 #776594  by DutchRailnut

160.770 is official talkaround channel. it will slowly be programmed in to train radios in channel 4 position.

161.070 (AAR Channel 64) was assigned to the former ConRail metropolitan region. For years it was channel 2 on all MN divisions. Channel 1 was 161.280 (AAR Channel 78) for all yards and divisions. MN kept it and it was going to be the "shop" channel, but Conrail/CSX objected. Yes, it is used as a channel for trains crews to talk to each other without tying up a road channel. But the yardmasters at Oak Point and Croton West yards don't appreciate it very much.

All new MN locomotive radios do not have this channel, but it can still be found on M7 and M8 radios, which is strange because it is supposed to be phased out.

Read all postings before you jump to conclusions. Cape Cod Loco Guy addressed this in his very detailed posting.

Good to know!! I know I did hear of MNR's Ch.4 usage (on 161.070 Mhz) interfering with Conrail operations at Oak Point in the past. Never heard if it interfered recently with any CSX communications in Oak Point or Croton West.

They really should program the portable radios with the "new" Ch. 4. (160.770 Mhz). I use the old MP-A Scan portable (don't laugh, I know it is a relative relic!!), and it has all the mentioned frequencies EXCEPT Ch. 4 (161.070 Mhz), and I am not sure if it is programmed with 160.770 Mhz.

I am well aware of what he posted, thanks!! You are noting mistakes of his, and I noted mistakes of yours!! You are not aware that your information about Channel 4 is wrong, was well used as a talk channel off the main road channels by the crews, has not been used by Conrail since the split in 1999, being as CSX took over the channel and the yard and lines in the area for which it is used, and I brought it to your attention, and gave you what it has been used for by us, and what it is used for by CSX, not Conrail anymore, given Conrail no longer serves Oak Point or anywhere in the city limits. So calm down, and not jump to conclusions yourself, and read what is posted a little bit better. And Dutchrailnut has addressed that it will no longer be used by us anymore.

Thanks for the info about 161.0700. So if 160.77 which is currently CH-6 (A) is going to replace CH-4 what frequency is going to replace CH-6 (A)?

Thanks,

Even the FCC as a Federal agency makes TYPO's
