Does anyone have any tips/suggestion for the best method for mounding a video camera to shoot from a train cab?

See this manufacturer: http://www.ram-mount.com/

Try to avoid shooting through glass. If you must, get the lens as close as possible, and find a rubber collapsible sunshade for the lens to remove all reflections by having the front of the sunshade touch the glass.

Use a camera with shake reduction if at all possilble.

Another option is Bogen's No. 2929 Friction Arm. It can be combined with various heads & clamps to tailor it to your needs.

I have one and have notice it will magnify vibrations if positioned straight out. Keeping it "v" shaped minimizes this. Upside is it's metal and will hold just about anything this side of broadcast gear. Mind what your clamping to, cranking down a SuperClamp (No. 2915) will leave bite marks in soft materials. ;-)
