The operators of the UPPER HUDSON RIVER Railroad lost their operating contract as of December 31st 2010 and are now selling ALCO PLANT SWITCHER # 5.
This switcher is the LAST remaining switcher in existence that once worked at ALCO.

I am waiting for more information as to its condition, but the asking price is $50,000

It has friction bearing trucks, 660 hp ALCO 539 6 cylinder diesel engine.

If anyone has serious interest to BUY this unit, please contact me off list and I will give you updates I receive plus the owners contact information.
Owner is not willing to donate at this point.
Thank you

Alco 5 is in good hands. I personally know the tentative CMO for the new operators in North Creek and he is a very big fan of Alcos and would love to see her pristine again.

Any news? Last I checked (Aug 8, 2011) she was still in North Creek, behind the engine shed on the track leading up to the turntable.

S-1 # 5 was sold to the S&NC in North Creek. It will get a new paint job when time permits. It will remain in ALCO Demo colors
