First M420W's 3571 and 3563 have been sold and are now WGRX 2003 and 2004.

Second, word as come that ALL NON OPERATING LOCOMOTIVES ARE TO BE SCRAPPED.

Locomotives that fall into this catagory include RS11 1195, RS3M 975 (possibabally already scrapped, RS3M 974 and the following...

ALCO RS2U 469.

Anyone got any ideas as to anyone that would like to buy the 469 and preserve her. she only needs new seal and gaskets. she is one of 2 operating RS2's left anywhere and will be scrapped in a couple weeks. Shes and origional D&M unit and they want only 20K for her. Scrap value is much higher.
anyone with ideas??

Would donation of the RS-2 be feasable? How can they be contacted. 20k isnt bad, if they offered f.o.b it would really be a steal. What gaskets and seals are bad anyway?

not sure which gaskets are bad, but theeir contact info can be found at www.lsrc.com.

Think Peter J. Smykla in Arkansas who saved the last RS3 been built and own an RSC2 could maybe be interested.
Maybe anyone has the possibility to inform him about the RS2.

the rs11 needs an electrical rebuild. A contractor was piad to do it, took all the wires out of the electrical cabnet, and ran off with the money never finishing the work. other than that.. shes a great runner.

974 RS3M - supposedly has a bent frame, but the loco runs GREAT. was involved in a derailment not long ago. Has bent steps but other than that i can't see where the frame is bent at all. shes repairable.

975 RS3M - Has a bad crankshaft

469 RS2U - Needs all new seal and gaskets. but looks Great.

974 and 975 were both rebuilt with 251's by MK in 74 and 75. (About the same time they did the 8 D&H RS-3 rebuilds.)

These two were actually done before the D&H units and were the first RS3 conversions done by M-K. They did not have dynamic brakes like the D&H units but otherwise very similar. According to Diesel Spotters Guide Update one had 1800 HP and the other 2000 HP. Not sure why that was done or if it is accurate.
