There are at least a few historic diesels in the area that are operable and could be leased for fantrip service. That would of course not be within Steamtown's "mission statement", but then the excursions operate mostly outside the boundaries of the park. It would not be the first time that Steamtown has been operated as Dieseltown.
Remember the statement by a railcamp student to his sponsoring NRHS chapter that was mentioned here in the past: "They talked and talked and talked about steam locomotives, then whenever they needed to do something they started up the diesel". Yes, the railroads discovered that way of doing things a long time ago.
They could claim to be re-enacting the steam to diesel transition.
