One of the last working towers in the Chicagoland area was taken off line late in 2007. The Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad's Grasselli Tower is located in East Chicago, Indiana. The IHB has offered the tower to the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum for preservaton, but we need your help! IHB has given HVRM a limited time frame within which to get the tower moved.

You can visit our website dedicated to Grasselli Tower at:

Thanks!

Just to keep everybody updated, so far we've collected $12,833 in cash contributions and donations for the Grasselli Tower Project! This is great news considering the short amount of time we have! We're over 1/4 of the way there, but we still have a ways to go...

I want to thank everyone for the generous contributions!!!!

Bob, that's great news. Thanks for letting us know!

Is there any way you can collect donations electronically, perhaps through PayPal link from your site?

BTW- whoever made the Tower website did a very good job! Well done.

You can now make your tax-deductible contribution to the Grasselli Tower Project online! Through our affiliation with the Starke County Community Foundation, you can use your credit card to help save Grasselli Tower. When you make the donation through the SCCF/NICF website, make sure that you follow the instructions so that we get properly credited. The amount of money we have raised in such a short period of time is truly amazing! Thank you!!!

As an example, Western Connecticut Chapter NRHS acquired and restored the historic tower at South Norwalk... however, it remains trackside, and has become a popular downtown attraction... http://www.westctnrhs.org/tower.htm

How just a couple of days can make a difference! This morning I received an email from Mark Knebel (our secretary at the HVRM) advising me to update the Grasselli Tower website with a new dollar amount. I'm pleased to say that we have now surpassed the $20K mark and our donation meter signal now displays a slow-clear indication! :-)

The semaphores continue to move on the Grasselli Tower Project - we have now surpassed the $30k mark and are getting closer to our goal. If you haven't already donated to this worthy cause, just visit our website at http://www.grassellitower.com and make your donation online. This is a great opportunity for the railfan and railroad preservation communities to step up and help save a piece of railroad history.

Again, a big THANK YOU to everyone that has donated to the project!!!

I'm grateful during these tough economic times that people have found the money to help us move Grasselli Tower. At the present time, we're only $13,733.47 away from our goal of $50k! Thank you to everyone that has contributed thus far and if you haven't already made a donation, please do so!
