Hello Everyone, I'm Jeremy Rice the Volunteer Coordinator with the Tillamook Air Museum in Tillamook, Oregon, we are housed in the worlds oldest open span wooden hangar in the world that is accessible to the public. It use to be the Naval Air Station Tillamook from 1942 to 1948 which housed the Navy's Lighter Than Air K-Class Blimps during WWII, We are looking to see If we could locate a 1940's era Helium Rail Car that we might be able to acquire to put on display here in our Museum as that is how the Helium arrived at the Base. If Anyone know of where we might be able to find one please let me know and I will do some foot work to see if we might be able to get it. Thank You for your time on this if you can help us out.

Some cars still exist. It looks like the Amarillo Railroad Museum and Gold Coast Railroad Museum have helium cars. Others were used for stationary storage and may be scrapped- one at Fermilab for example, and some may have gone to the Space X outfit around 2012.

Jeremy, this won't help you find any full size helium cars but there is a set of blog posts by Freight Car Historian and author Tony Thompson about them:

http://modelingthesp.blogspot.com/2012/ ... art-2.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And More than you’d probably ever want to know about helium cars was compiled as a handout for the 2007 convention of the Santa Fe Railway Historical and Modeling Society. It’s available here:
