odd question: any collections of UK rolling stock in US?

Do any museums in the US (or Canada) having characteristic UK locomotives or carriages, like the Peppercorn or Manor class steam engines, Deltic diesels, or "slam-door" rolling stock? I assume they do not because of the obvious logistic problems and expense of getting them here. It's a shame though. Of course, the FRA would never let them operate on our rails, but it would be a real kick to see a Deltic diesel and a train of UK carriages pull into an American station. We amuse ourselves with zoos that have animals from other places...why not trains!

Trolleys from the UK are represented in the US. Mainline railroad stuff from the UK in the US is certainly rare, I can't think of any. I wonder if ExpoRail in Quebec has something. I know they recently sent a loco to York for a special event.

At one time the Boyne City Railroad in MI had UK rolling stock and even an excursion train "The Flying Dutchess"
What happened to the rolling stock when they went belly up, I don't know.

Thomas I guess could count as an ambassador from the UK, but all the Thomas' that appear in North America for DOWT events were built in the US.

Thanks again carterb. You don't know how exciting this is for me. I will definitely consider contributing to its restoration. Although I do wonder if they lost the coaches at some point. Such slam door rolling stock is going to be much harder to come by than it was in the 1970s.

After attempting to search this site, which rather annoying doesn't have a searchable metadata element for origin, I've come to the conclusion that these are indeed very rare in the US. The only examples I've found besides "Flying Duchess" are narrow gauge, but I'm still looking. There's even been a "repatriation" as linked below. It underscores what I wrote before but edited; that railroad museums more than most are all about some notion of national pride. Unlike art museum, where, for example, we have no qualms about showcasing European art before American.

There is 1 steam engine and a "saloon"(obs) car at the National Train Museum in Green Bay Wi used as part of a "command train"
by then General Eisenhower during WWII,the "Dwight D Eisenhower"(60008) and"Domminion of Canada"(60010) were gifts to
the US and Canada from England after WWII,both are "on loan" to England's National Railway Museum for an anniversary
(#75)of a steam engine speed record set in 1939 by an A-4 class locomotive on British Railway rails,done with the engine "Mallard".
Both are at NRM"s Shildon facilty for cosmetic restoration and asbestos removal,to be returned in 2015.

Thanks Backshop. It's good to know about those too. It looks like the Flying Duchess could be mired in restoration for some time. I hate to sound so pessimistic but I think the generations who care about such things are going to die off more quickly than expected and like musical chairs whatever isn't finished in time is out of the game.

I think that this reason is sufficient enough to bring out the tenacity in the British to perhaps lock onto a special event if you try. I'll bet if you scroll the internet, paying particular attention to English railroad groups that you will find British excursions on old rarely seen English steam equipment that are in in the process of being quickly being made up to par for a weeks worth of work !

The Brits have a stong preservation movement for both steam and diesel locos,with Mainline running and Hertage lines
(Tourist Train like operations)and have recreated an "A-1" class 4-6-2, 60163 "Tornado" thru private fund raising.
Also scattered around the US are the "Merci" 2 axle 4 wheeled box cars sent from France after WWII,2 of those cars
are "mounted and stuffed" at Expo New Mexico(State Fair grounds) in ABQ NM in "roughly fair" condition.
(They are intact,under shade covers but inmoblized)
