While on the topic, has anybody done any Amtrak Cascades painting?? As I would like to know what color paints to use....

Without correct models available (except for the Athearn F59PHI that comes factory-decorated in that scheme), there is little incentive for anyone to put the time and money into producing decals unless they are attempting to build the models themselves.

That said, you should join "AmtrakModeler" at Yahoo Groups, as there is a member who had at least started working on kitbashing some Talgo cars. I don't know if he got very far because I think he's been busy with work and family. I do recall that we discussed the colors at one point, but I don't know if any model paints were ever actually recommended. The best thing is probably just to experiment until you find something that matches the Athearn F59, if only for consistency.

I have some drawings here that may be of interest to you:

The rest are only line drawings, as I never got around to completing color renderings:

Not decals, but what about this Talgo set for kitbashing?

Talgo Passenger Car Set
(No.3251)
Originally retailing for $124.95 and new in 2003 was E-R Models Amtrak Talgo Passenger Car Set. The set featured a pair of service vans (one TG6z and one TG6); three second-class coaches (TB6's); and a single first-class coach (TA6).

Well I won my brand new Cascades F59 on Ebay for $25.00, but I was in a hot bidding war for a 10 car Talgo car set there too, would have had to strip the paint and re-paint them and add the decals etc but I lost that bidding war (damn economy....),

As for that Amtrak Talgo pendular set I found them cheap online, so if I got two sets (each set is 4 coaches plus 2 service vans) that would be a 10 car train with 2 excess service vans. I guess I could kitbash the 2 leftovers somehow into the bistro and restaurant car....

Thoughts??

Thanks to Astrosa I was able to get this done using a set I picked up on Ebay. I'm up to 12 cars fully painted, need one more coach and the decals still. NPCU is almost complete as well! Image

Yes, please do take some more photos to share with us! I've known a few people who started kitbashing these based on my drawings, but I think you've come the farthest yet!

What do you plan to do for decals?

This ought to be a good starting place (see attached file)

Alex, thank you very much for the drawings! They are making wheels turn in my head, and dangerously so.

tunnelmotor: PLEASE more pictures! Also, what did you use to make the batman fins and how? What colors of paint did you use, that looks fantastic!

Hi

Just got interested in this Cascades project. May 3D print and or fabricate. Yet to make up my mind.

What is the best method for the single axle pivot between cars. Can anyone post a photo of one they have done or the Electrotren one so I can get some ideas.

I am not worried about having tilt option for cars.

Your comments would be appreicated.

The Taglo models are made by Lima,might be avaible thru the Hornby website.
http://www.hornby.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you might need to go over to the international(european side) of the site.

Suggest looking around the Shapeways site as well for some 3D printed cars. http://www.shapeways.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also visit http://acmodels.boards.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
