Hello,
Today's SLQ westbound 393 reached the U.S. Canada border at Norton at 0830 with the following:

GP40-3 3804
4 centerbeam flats
8 hi-cube boxcars
1 boxcar
10 propane cars
34 tank cars!
9 covered hoppers

That's 66 cars total, including 12 loads and 44 empties.

Meanwhile, 8 more loads of ballast are waiting to head east at East Brighton.

Absolutely, George. You've got at least one customer in three states and then the Canadian traffic that relies on the existence of this road to do business.

I was quite worried myself, with the period of trains that at times was under 20 cars, but investment on CWR for their section of track in NH, and the heap of work that track crews have done this summer/fall along the line to include multiple crossing rebuilds in Maine shows that this line has a solid future.

Hello,
Today's SLQ westbound 393 departed Island Pond at a more reasonable time of 0753 with the following:

RM-1 804
GP40-3 3805
GP40-2 3008
GP40-3 3806
RM-1 806
4 centerbeam flats
1 boxcar
1 covered hopper
12 propane cars
11 tank cars
1 SLR side-dump gondola

That's 30 cars total, all empties.

The 3806 and 806 were dead in tow, apparently they are headed to CAD in Montreal for mechanical work. Interestingly, all four trucks on the two units were recently repainted black (now if they would just paint the rest of the locomotives).

Also of interest was the blue ex-Corinth & Counce boxcar (now marked BKTY).

Finally, I understand that the rail work in Quebec will continue into next week, so trains will be leaving Island Pond early (on duty at 0500) and arriving in Island Pond later in the evening. I don't know where the work is being done.
Best,
Fritz

Fritz,

The work area is between Waterville and Lennoxville. They want 393 through, before starting work for the day. The Saturday OD is as normal, the crew does not work weekends.

Thanks, Casey!
I figured it was somewhere south of Windsor but was not sure where.

By the way, no road trains tomorrow (Monday) night as it is Thanksgiving (in Canada).
Best,
Fritz
