At 9AM on 9/15/58, Train #3314 failed to stop at the home signal and ran off the Newark Bay Bridge. 48 fatalities including the engine crew.

Cause of the accident was never officially determined.

I remember seeing the photo/headline on front page of the NY Daily News. (I was only 7 years old)

My father was 2 trains ahead going on the NY&LB. He was visibly shaken that evening. (I was 7 as well)
