On Sunday, April 1 (no this isn't a joke), the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle plans to have a large story about the TCE spill, 41 years later.
The TCE spill of up to 35,000 gallons, or more than 200 tons, occurred during a train derailment in 1970 in a rural part of Le Roy, Genesee County. Since then, the solvent has spread into Caledonia, Livingston County and Wheatland, Monroe County. Federal officials who oversee the spill site say public health is being protected, but cleanup of the TCE remains an elusive goal.
