Just saw GMTX 9000 here in Chattanooga, TN yesterday on NS. It still wears the special P&W/VRS scheme and is quite clean.freightguy wrote:The oakway leasers are gone, back to all 4 axle power for the stone trains.

It had 1 B-40-8 and 2 C-40-8s up front, all in G&W paint.

It looks like the train is sticking to the Monday, Wednesday, Friday pattern of leaving Queens.

If anybody is watching the Walk tower Cam("So No" is a local term for South Norwalk) the Danbury local leaves first at Cedar Hill,CHFP follows
The local is topped and tailed to allow a quick move off the New Haven line at Walk tower.

Caught P&W through Noroton Heights on the CT New Haven shore line. Looks like they have expanded the hopper car pool with the newer GATX blue stone cars and also older IFTX hoppers that were once coke(iron ore) cars. Really impressive how much CHFP has grown in the last 10 years in length and volume of service.

At 6:40p. noticed the CSX turn out of Oak Point crossing over the mainline of the L.I.R.R. southbound. Literally a few hundred feet behind was the stone train with 4 engines, first one in P&W paint with the other 3 in G&W paint. At 8:10p. 3 light engines went north followed by a train. Too dark to see whose light engines or whose train they were.

Its quite interesting how these trains are running behind each other. Considering theres no signals on the Freemont, its possible but does anyone know whats the reason for running so close like that?

So I wasn't imagining things when I saw both trains in a span of 10 minutes...

Years ago when CP was still running, it was somewhat routine from CP to follow closely behind P&W in the late afternoon. There was one occasion where CP was running light so they combined the two trains, with the CP power up front. Must have been a railfan or two amongst the crew as they stopped on Hell Gate for a few photos.
