Lake Norman, NC Bridges

Planning a fall trip to the Charlotte area and will visit friends on Lake Norman. Can anyone provide information about the two bridges that cross Lake Norman? One is in the northern section of the lake just below Route 70 and I-40. The other bridge is south of Route 150 in the middle of the lake. Information like who owns the trackage, train frequency on these lines, and viewing points would be helpful.

I did some digging and found: I don't think Amtrak runs over these lines. I think Amtrak goes south from Charlotte towards the coast and Myrtle Beach, SC not inland towards these bridges. I also found a commuter rail study / plan and at the least the northern line / bridge may be part of that study. I am also thinking that NS's Crescent Corridor is not run over these lines. Both lines look maintained from Google map views so something must be going on.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Both are branches of the NS (Southern) freight lines only. Northern branch had passenger service to Asheville on the Southern.
The Crescent still runs on the main Southern line through NC from Greensboro, Salisbury, Charlotte, a bit east of Lake Norman. The famous Spencer shops near Salisbury are also on that line.

CarterB - thanks for the info. With further searching after my posting I found thses pictures of traffic in the area:

Am I correct in assuming that the bridge in Terrell is only for coal deliveries to the Duke power plant?

As I wrote earlier I had read a study that was done maybe 10 years ago that was looking at regional commuter transportation. The study examined the line between Ashville and Salisbury which you mentioned used to have passenger traffic. Bringing passengers back to that line looks to be cost prohibitive currently because from what I can gather that line is single track and new sidings would need to be built as well as grade crossing and signal issues.

Thanks again.
