Cascades ridership report for 2009 is now available. Total ridership dropped from 774,531 in 2008 to 761,610 in 2009 (12,921 fewer riders) . The lower passenger count was due to lower ridership in OR during the first nine months of the year. For the whole year OR had a drop of 15,636 passengers, but during the 4th quarter 2009, OR ridership equalled the 2008 ridership numbers. WA ridership actually increased slightly during 2009 (up about 2,700 riders). Considering the local economies, pretty good numbers.

Here's some more information about 2009 ridership. There's a breakdown of farebox recovery for WA supported trains (507 covers about 80% of its costs), on-time performance (71.8% for 2009), total ridership and city-by-city on-off totals. The report says that Portland has the highest passenger counts in the Cascades Corridor, but the graph provided shows more passengers on/offing in Seattle than Portland. Who knows?
