I came across this lovely old film from 1955 a short while ago.

It tells the story of a freight train travelling between Kirkby Stephen and Barnard Castle which becomes snowbound in the Westmorland hills in the north of England during a really cold winter in 1955.

The film was made by the British Transport Films (BTF) unit which was a Government organisation which dealt with film publicity for the various then Nationalised transport industries.

This link tells the story of the film.

and this link is to the film itself.

Hope you enjoy.

The Railway Magazine (published in UK), November 2016 issue, p 71, reports that the locomotive which features in this film has just been restored to "front-line service almost exactly 50 years after it was withdrawn by British Railways".

Incidentally, there have been two further posts linking to this film on Railroad.Net, at viewtopic.php?f=149&t=163787&p=1405284& ... l#p1405284" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and one some way down the page at viewtopic.php?f=149&t=157690&hilit=bleath+gill&start=15" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
