Kent's forgotten railway lines and stations

Exciting plans were unveiled earlier this year to bring the Folkestone Harbour branch line back into use.

This is just one example of Kent's rich railway heritage but it has been left as something of a rubbish dump over the past few years.

It used to provide a connection for boat trains from London, with ferry services to France.

The line closed to regular passenger train services in 2001, although the occasional Orient Experience and railtours continued until 2009.

But now Network Rail has announced it is set to clear another section of the line and bring it back into community use.

Have to wonder at projects like this. We are talking a mile or so of track , with a busy station maybe 2 miles away . They've already turned the old station into a pedestrian / bike area. Not sure where the trains would run to / from .
I would have thought a better use would be to turn it into a bike/ pedestrian way , or lineal park.
Having said that , it is an historic rail / boat route, but I would have thought Dover was more well known and associated rail/sea.

The Folkestone pier lost its regular use when the Tunnel attracted nearly all the traffic. It is hard to see what use it would have now.

It seems we have misread the intention of Network Rail .

They are going to lift the rails , tidy up the area , and use it for an unstated community use.
Foot / bike path is the obvious use to me .
