Tangarakau, middle of nowhere !

Returning from our Xmas break , I decided to take the campervan back through the backcountry , between Taranaki and King Country.
Basically following the line of the closed Stratford–Okahukura Line .

Though the line is closed to Full size railways , it is used by Rail carts for tourists.

This is called the Forgotten World highway, my 7 year old daughter decided "the middle of nowhere "was more accurate. It was hard to argue with her, though there are probably more tourists on the road these days , than there were locals in its heyday.
It was probably the route of NZ's last mixed train , with a carriage attached to the daily goods train till the mid eighties or so.
My target for the day was the Bushlands camp at Tangarakau, http://bushlands.co.nz/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, we ran out of daylight and stayed at Whangamomona.

All told, it was a great trip , with lots of railway history , and a good taste of backcountry NZ.
