In this time I'm very busy but turning in the city I discovered some plinthed locos and carriages that can be of interest for rail fans.

During the "Pacific War" in the second half of 1800 Lima was protected by some "reductos" (defending structures) and, to celebrate that era, in the '90s of XXth century the Miraflores district mayor built up a museum in the site of #2 reducto. The man in charge of the work had the idea of building a copy of the old Miraflores station of the Lima-Miraflores-Chorrillos railroad that had been near there and, to give visitors the feel of a train waiting, put a loco and a carriage at the building ends.

The loco, 3 ft gauge, was built by Baldwin in 1929 and comes from the Cuzco-Macchu Pichu-Quillabamba railway where, in its last times, had #102; it has been restored as it was originally.

Instead the carriage is standard gauge and comes from the Ferrocarril Central. It was built in Peru into the '30s under north-american design and has been painted with inscriptions of the Chorrillos line as a dining car.

Good looking rolling stock. Nice looking building too. Noting the similarity of western languages, we have the word "redoubt" in English, with the same meaning.

In the Lima downtown, in the S. Isidro district, I discovered this little jem in the yard of a business center.
It is approx. 2ft gauge and the plate on the side reports Berlin Drewitz 1923.

I'm moving to Lima. Benny- I sent a link to this thread to one of my supervisors who is from Peru. He rode that line to Huancayo, and is interested in this.

This carriage, heavily modified, is used, on the side of the Barranco district coliseum, as a kindergarten.

This other instead is plinthed in the Surco district and used as a library. Note the ramps for wheelchairs because of the nearly diseased people center (not so common here).

The building at the back is interesting being old and wooden bodied in the middle of a newly built area. Possibly it can be an old station.

Next time something more

One of the best preserved wagons is this one, used as a bar in a park of Jesus Maria district.

Another car used as bar-restaurant is this one, in the Barranco district, but it has been "extended" and the new part put on a fake truck.

I wonder if NJ Transit, my employer, could borrow that bar car. We used to have them on some trains, but no more.

Yes, this was the main passenger station in Lima (the nearly Monserrate station was more for goods and maintenance) and now the magnificent building is a seat of the national library.
Note that the approximately monthly tourists trains start from here on the only left track that is part of the line from Callao.

The last image shows the stair that from the ground level descend to the track, approx. 6 meters down.
