Are all the cars painted orange now? I rode the train a couple of weeks ago and the train was green. I wasn't sure if any cars languish around the engine house.

Does anyone have good full-on shots of the circus lettering on the sides of the orange cars? My boonton coach (brass, $200) came in and I'm evaluating my next steps. I'd like to see the lettering myself again if a car is still there, if not, I'll make do with photos.

Thanks,

Charles

Congratulations on your coach. By the way, MODERN RAILS (google them) manufacturers decals in many scales. They have coach decals in HO scale for the A&A's orange circus scheme, as well as G scale. They can make them in any scale, actually. Ricky is a good guy and has made me A&A decals in several scales, including the coaches. He is familiar with the line and a good guy to work with. I would suggest you turn to him if you want professional decals made.

I went to the site but couldn't find anything they already produced. Just that they can do decals. Are you saying he'll sell what he already made for someone?

Charles:

I'm fairly certain all of the coaches have been painted green at this point, however there are many, many pictures available of the coaches in their orange. Do a google image search. Here are links to just a few good shots:

But Ben's right: Rick at Modern Rails has the so-called "circus" lettering available in an HO scale decal. I don't know that the decal he offers was actually sized for a boonton coach, however, so you'd be well-advised to provide him with the precise dimensions of the area you want covered by the decal if you want it to be 100% accurate. He's very accomodating, and VERY reasonably priced. He'll custom make the decals to fit your specifications if what he has available doesn't suit your purposes.

He created HO scale decals for me of the 1960s era lettering/numbering on the cab and tender of No. 14 and I couldn't be happier with the results.

THanks. Ive' contacted Modern Rails.

I saw those photos. I also have plenty of my own photos and slides. 30 years of railfanning adds up. Even those 126-size photos have come in handy.

God...you know...now that I really take a close look at those pictures--and after seeing the elegant gold lettering on the repainted coaches, now--I'm really struck by just how hideous that old black lettering was. I don't even know what font that is. "Circus" doesn't really quite accurately describe it. It's actually rather sinister-looking. Look at the letter "E" for cripes' sake. And the "R". And the "C" that's inexplicably smaller than the other letters. The coaches looked as if they were lettered by some overly-pierced Goth teen. Yikes. All aboard the Continental & Hot Topic!
