Actually, the night shot isn't that unique. There were quite a few photographers at the night shoot. What is unique is how I got the shot. I have a point and shoot camera that has no option to hold the shutter open. I actually had to take video and then edit out individual frames as photos. Totally unorthodox, and a little crazy, but it sort of worked. (This method is good for catching lightning- you can actually see the bolt progressing through several frames)

I would check some of the railroad photo sites- maybe someone else who was at the night shoot will post their pics.

Love the dueling whistles. :-D
I actually had a friend take pics and video for me (I was rather busy and couldn't run the camera).

It is late, and man what a wonderful weekend! Too many people to thank tonight, more after a bit of rest! Many people made this all come together, and without our passengers, none of this would be possible!

Great stuff posted...there shouldn't be a recession in the battery, film or digital chip markets

Image
Many of the shots taken during the night photo session were exposures of 1 to 2 minute. This image was caught with my digital which would only go 15 seconds max. The rest of the film awaits processing...enjoy!

I had planned on being there on Saturday but went Sunday instead. They canceled the 1230 southbound departure and made it into a double header to Curriers. It worked out great even though I was disappointed not running on the B&S. Here is my YouTube clip I just uploaded.

Here's a couple of my shots from Railfan Day. The first is the photographer's special crossing the Cattaraugus Creek and the second is the four-engine lineup in front of the shops during the night shoot. I'll be adding more in the next few days, and I'll pass those links along as well. Enjoy.

Too bad that ARCADE and ATTICA RR No.14 is derelict and not under steam. What a site it would be if A.& A. No.14,VISCOE Company No.6 and A.& A.No.18 were all under steam!

After the double header on Sunday, my friend and I were speaking to the crew by the engine house. I asked about #14 and whether it will run again. He said it would take a lot of money. He then looks at me and says, "You got money?" I said, "How much?" He says, "Two million to restore it." My reply to him was that I took out a lotto ticket for 81 million dollars the night before. Everybody chuckled. Then I said if I get the 81 million you'll get your 2 million. More laughter. I didn't win. #14 we'll have to wait a little longer.

I'd just like to echo all the comments others have made about Railfan Day on the A&A. From the start, with No. 6 seemingly trying to lift the entire train on the first leg of the southbound doubleheader, to the multiple runbys, the freshly-painted gon (watch the yellow paint!), the bark of dual exhausts on the climb out of Curriers, to Steve Barry and the night photo session, it was one of those memorable days of railroading. My seven-year-old was excited and exhausted by the day, and, like all of us, anxious for a repeat. Despite the short notice and the logistics involved with running something like this for the first time, those involved seemed to pull it off with few apparent hitches. The delay on the doubleheader was frustrating for some of the regular train passengers, but most seemed to take it in stride. The employees of the A&A and their volunteer cohorts from the Friends of the Arcade and Attica maintained their friendly and professional attitude throughout, and often seemed as excited about this as the rest of us. All are to be commended. Thanks for everyone who worked to make this day a success and came out to participate, and for posting their photos and videos on the web (my son's thrilled that he appears in a few of them). Let's hope we can make it happen again. Keep riding those regular trains.

I was very disapointed I was not able to attend but I did get the chance to see #6 up close. When I showed up for work at Blue Seal Mon. morning she was sitting on a lowboy trailer near where our trucks are parked. One of those days when I wished I'd brought my camera to work.
One thought, when was the last time three steamers sat in front of the A&A shop?

Sorry, you missed it Pete.

Maybe the early 1940s? Late 1930s?

Thank you A&A! It was a fun day and I really hope this becomes an annual event.
Here is my video of the event:

I put it together pretty fast (I haven't even watched the finished version yet) so it is fairly long.
One of these days I will get some pictures posted too.
