Thanks for posting all of those great photographs. I would have thought that there might have been more, like old rail somewhere or something else. Still, after 52 years it is great to see this.

Here is a view of Attica from 1956, just prior to the closure of the northern portion of the railroad. This point where the photographer is standing is about the north edge of the current town park looking north. The 1st switch to the right is the one leading to the Westinghouse Foundry. Directly behind the photographer would be the switch leading off towards the prison (shown below). Further into the picture, the south switch to the wye is just visible.

This is looking south (taken from near the south edge of the current town park). This was the lead going toward the State Prison off the A&A. The prison also had a connection to the Erie farther to the east. You can see Exchange street crossing at the top of the picture. You can just make out the dark side structures of the bridge in the picture. Today, on the south side of the road is the Rodeo Grounds. There is a garage built directly on the right of way on the north side of the road today.

Nice pictures. I really like the switch-stand target markers. A neat detail that doesn't exist in today's railroads.

I recently was in Attica.

The r.o.w. was being cleared of trees between the rodeo grounds and where the r.o.w. is washed out by Rt. 98: http://binged.it/1sfWhue" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I hope the old grade doesn't get plowed under.

I'll try to go and take pics soon.

It's amazing how you can still see the "scar" in the landscape where the railway once ran.

Too bad some fool with a too much money doesn't come in and rebuild it.

There remains a small bridge south of Attica along Rt 98.

Grade at Perry's near the feed mill:

The grade off of Maxon Road is a snowmobile trail in the winter:

This cut is behind a fence that crosses the grade to keep snowmobilers off:

This cut can been seen in 1947 wreck photos of #110.

The grade in Attica to the prison:

Compare this to the color pic Pat posted above.

The grade south of the Attica Rodeo grounds is being cleared by a local farmer:
