Help petition Obama to create an affordable, energy-efficient, high speed rail network.
Developing a better rail network could have several major positive impacts. If affordable, it would decrease the numbers of cars and buses on roads as well as the number of people being hassled through airport security. This would dramatically decrease energy usage and could very much speed up traveling time. This process would create millions of jobs and reduce the number of car and bus accidents.

Sign this petition if you agree with this. Need 150 votes for it to go public, 100k visits in one month for it to be seen by the White House

Thanks!

Moderator's Note: As the other posters in this thread have stated, the president (whether Obama or a future president) does not have the power to create an American HSR network, since the purse strings and legal authority lie with Congress. Besides, President Obama has already stated his interest in creating such a network. You'd have better luck, perhaps, petitioning the FRA to accept different crash energy management standards.

Otherwise, this thread has run its course. PM me or Greg if you wish to add to it.
