The Clicking schedule board at New Haven CT's Union Station is coming down & replaced with two larger side by side LED boards.
The board will be replaced by two larger side by side LED boards as part of a yearlong , $5 million improvement project expected to begin in thew spring .
The project will rehabilitate the tunnel between the station & the platforms, bring several systems in the building up to code and revamp the public information systems with about 400 new speakers throughout the facility & 19 new variable message boards on the platforms.
State DOT spokesman Kevin Nursick said the existing schedule board - known as a Solari board - is getting old making it difficult to procure parts & harder to fix quickly.
The new boards which together will span 34 feet across and 7 feet high will offer more fexibility in relaying information .
The specifications for the new message boards and audible systems are based on those at Grand Central Terminal in New York .
I for one hope the Solari board can & will be saved , not like the Last New Haven Steam Engine.
