Building your own Solari split-flap display

Post by STrRedWolf » Fri Sep 09, 2016 1:09 pm

Turns out with a 3D printer, an acrylic cutter, and some off-the-shelf hobbist hardware, you can make your own split-flap display. Here's a small one:

Moderator: please move if this isn't an appropriate forum. I couldn't find a better spot.

Cool!

Moderator's Note: it doesn't quite fit here, no. It doesn't quite fit in Model Railroading either, but since that forum deals most heavily with hobbyists and electronics, I think I'll move it there.

PM Jeff or their forum mods if you think it'd be better elsewhere.

There's a 4mm scale layout in the UK that has a home-made Solari indicator so that at exhibitions the spectators can see where the trains are supposed to have come from or be going to.

I saw it last September while I was on vacation and it was fascinating, the layout itself was also a superb piece of modeling.
