When the CNJ pulled out of Penna in 1972, who actually owned their mainline from Jim Thrope thru the gorge at the time? I have pics from the early-mid 1970s that show the mainline track still in place. Who actually owned the track at the time and who/when was it finally pulled out?

With Lehigh Valley keeping their own tracks through the gorge, I believe the bankrupt CNJ's estate pulled up their
own rails in that area and sold off what they could to pay off creditors. Of course LV was using some of CNJ's trackage in
Pennsylvania (Allentown to Lehighton, Fraser to Laurel Run). Also LV took over former Lehigh & New England from CNJ
as well.

I have read that LV used their own tracks through the gorge because their right of way was higher up from normal water levels
of the Lehigh River, therefore less prone to flooding.

CNJ continued to serve the Scranton area by running trains from Elizabeth to the Lackawanna Cutoff and then on the DL&W
to Scranton.
