Yesterday was so nice in the early part of the day I went bike riding. I made it to the swing bridge at Black Rock and found that CN was laying down new ties. They had just ripped up a set of rails a year or two ago so I thought maybe they were installing new rails. I managed to ask the crane operator if they were dropping new rail...he said no. They were actually replacing the ties from the ripped up trackage. Safer to drive on I guess.

The high railer truck was loaded with new ties and was positioned on the existing rails. The crane operator carefully transferred the ties onto the bridge and put them into position. At the spot I found them on, they were over the canal so dropping the ties would have been a no no. No gaps between the ties and they were being secured into position with big wood screws through a metal strip.
