So what's next? Obviously there are more ties to replace , track work to be done, tree trimming, etc, but until you get approval to cross 28A, assuming you do , what is the next plan of attack? What happened to building the small yard, or did Ulster renege on that?

That's a great plan Ernie and, the fact that your numbers are based on real data, I hope the city embraces what the CMRR is trying to accomplish.

I also note the Spur to Kingston Lumber included in the future proposals along with what be a needed re-connection to the national rail network.

Am I correct in guessing that KIngston Lumber is still interested if the cards fall into place?

Not to get political, but Ms. Nolan is very smart, and based on a small bit of research, she appears to be well connected both politically and in the environmental community. She also appears to have some serious clout in the trail community as well. Plus she’s a doctor and apparently also studied law. So the problem for the CMRR is that she’s a formidable opponent. You’re essentially dealing with someone who is powerful, and in a position of authority. So I don’t know what you can do, except try to somehow win her over?

Openly against generating revenue for the county doesn't sound smart to me. Experienced in politics, perhaps, but not smart.

Usually you get these types by digging the skeletons out of their closets, catching them in hypocrisy, or otherwise characterizing them as bad.

CMR does a good job on the fact side, there's no reason to get down and dirty, but the obvious question would remain, why would someone want to throw away all of that revenue for a trail nobody but a few locals will use?

They can claim some additional gains from people using the portions converted to trail, but that's because nothing was there before. A simple people counter would tell the tale of how many use it versus how many could use a train.

THAT is the $64,000 question of the day. It does make one wonder what’s really going on...

That being said, I do applaud the CMRR for taking the high road and refusing to play dirty, because you and I both know if the railroad went that way and did play dirty, then they would be the ones to look bad.

I also assume the gag order is still in place that the railroad can't "disparage" the county. There seems to be a major shift after the previous county-executive-for-life left & his hand-picked interim executive was replaced with a fresh person. Hopefully things are more balanced and logical.

Is the Daily Freeman still slanted against the railroad? [Edit] The Daily Freeman does still seem slanted in their reporting.
