Besides the Milwaukee Road (!) diesels on the left, there's what appears to be a small switch engine (44 tonner? 45 tonner?) in the yard, just left of the EL freight coming through and behind the switcher. It looks like the number of this unit is 1659 but I can't be sure. Any thoughts on what that unit is, and why it's there?

It would appear to be US Army 80 tonner 1659. If you Google it will bring up some images.

Sam must be doing something with the album. Earlier today, the album was down to a little over 200 photos. I see it is up to 837 as of this posting, although the links for the individual photos have changed, and some photos that had previously had locations, descriptions and comments now have none showing up.

What did they store in that tank, it looks very large!

It looks much like one of those old-style "gas-tanks", similar to the UGI tank that was in Allentown, Pa.
many years ago that was near the Lehigh Valley tracks.

I don't remember if it was gas or oil stored in the tanks. It was located on Court St. in Binghamton where NYSEG currently has one their storage facilities.

These images are absolutely fantastic! Amazing to look what was once in Binghamton and surrounding areas.
