This thread is for the discussion of the operations, equipment, and history of the Catskill Mountain Railroad, operators of the former New York Central Catskill Mountain Branch (former Ulster & Delaware Railroad). Any relevant news stories posted from outside sources require a link to the original article plus a brief "fair-use" quote.

Because of snow and cold weather no work crews are planned for the weekend of January 5 and 6.

Happy new Year!

We have been informed by the county that all 6 projects on the west end of the railroad were approved, which total $3.2 million. They include:

1) Phoenicia Yard repairs
2) Campground Curve
3) MP 25.8
4) MP 23.3 Washout
5) MP 22.5 Scouring
6) C30 Bridge

We will be meeting with the Ulster County RR Advisory Board soon (set up by the legislature) to get these repairs moving.

WOW this is incredibly good news. With the west end restored, including the Boiceville Trestle - AND with you guys building west out of Kingston, you're gonna have a RAILROAD!!!

This is huge. Congratulations CMRR. Happy New Year indeed!!!

This is good news ? Yes being able to cross c-30 and c-9 WOW! and maybe a grant ? A train ride from Kingston to Phonecia hears hoping . I know the focus is Phonicia to Kingston , but did they [the county] submit anything for the Irene damage west ?

That is good news!! :) But in line with all this good news I had a thought. And I don't wish to step on anyone's toes here forgive me. What are the chances that one day maybe you guys could have a small ownership stake in the line/row? Even if it were just 10 or 15%. You guys are working so hard fixing the line and at the end of the day it sure would be nice to see you guys have some ownership in the same line your rebuilding. :)

Saturday, January 12th

Cornell Street will open at 9am Saturday. Plans are to begin preparations in the yard to make room for the rolling stock soon to be brought back from Route 209. Trackwork may be done depending on field conditions.

Sunday, January 13th

Cornell Street yard may be open on Sunday. Please check with Earl Pardini directly to be sure.

Actually, the lease agreement with the county is actually the best arrangement for the railroad at this time. It helps open the door for more development opportunities than would straight-out ownership by the company. That's just my opinion.

Just hopefully they get a lease that keeps a railroad in place , it seems more hope full now than just a few months ago .
Question , when we have a railroad from Kingston to Phonicia or beyond how many stations will there be roughly? any idea

Actually what would be real cool, is if one day the CMRR has a station at all the old station stops that used to be along the line just like when it had passenger service. Bring the line back to it's former glory days. :)
