What's the history on the abandoned line that starts at the Kingston, NJ (ex-Erie) NJT station and goes south to Harrison, NJ? Looks like it was 2 tracks. Part of it still goes thru the paved pax platform at Kingston Sta.

The Harrison branch connected the with Boonton line with a wye at Kingsland, and ran south to a wye connection to the M&E at Harrison. It was a busy local freight line in the 1970's and previously. There is a little bit of track left and 1 or 2 consignees at the Harrison end. Served by CSX.

pdtrains wrote:"unincorporated" is the legal term for an informal name for a section of a legal entity, i.e., a municipality or county in New Jersey. Unincorporated areas as such can have no government, regulations, laws, ordinances, property, employees, police department, etc. since they are not a municipality or county under NJ State Law. Every area, other than perhaps federal enclaves, in New Jersey is within a specific municipality which has government, etc.

Part of it still goes thru the paved pax platform at Kingsland Sta.This route was also brought up a few years ago by some Kearny politicians pitching an idea of commuter rail service or light rail returning to Kearny. Obviously the congestion on the M&E and NEC, and the location of this branch made that proposal dead on arrival. I could see this route revived someday as a more active freight spur, hurricane storage, or a MOW route, but the branch is pretty impractical these days for any sort of regular service.
