Did they ever bring cars to the gas works on Creeper Hill Road N Grafton ? Think there were tracks near by, cant remember. This would be in the 70's , think the plant ( acetylene ) and other gases was built in 1956.

Wouldn't that have been the Penn Central? The plant would've been on the north side of the B&A mainline. I may be wrong (nothing new there) but I don't believe the G&U ever crossed the B&A..

There is an article in today's Worcester Telegram re: how many of the truckers who come in and out of the expanded CSX intermodal terminal in downtown Worcester are using city streets such as rte 122 to get to rte 20 and the Pike as opposed to the ramp to I-290, making Grafton Hill residents very unhappy. Apparently CSX business has grown so much that many empty containers are temporarily stored off-site at a lot in Shrewsbury on rte 20.

Relevant to this thread is that photos accompanying the on-line article show a G&U Logistix tractor hauling a CSX/UMAX container allegedly out of the intermodal facility down Grafton St (rte 122). Apparently in addition to G&U Logistix HQ/transload site in Hopedale, G&U Logistix has a site at 223 Hartford Turnpike (ie, rte 20) Shrewsbury. So I'm guessing the G&U Logistix trucks photographed on Grafton St in the Telegram article are draying containers to Shrewsbury. Interesting to learn the G&U business extends to drayage out of the CSX Worcester Intermodal facility. But G&U Logistix isn't helping CSX make nice with Grafton Hill residents.

G&U Logistixs has been down on Rt. 20 for close to four years now... I could've told you that considering Al's delivers fuel and fixes the heat down there. As for the lot with the containers, I drive past it every day. They only started parking the empty containers there within the last year or so, before that you'd occasionally have trucking companies lease the lot to park their trailers (I think Schneider or Hartt was one of the last ones, but I can't remember for sure off the top of my head). As for the trucks going down Rt. 122, the locals are blaming CSX for it... Completely ignoring the fact that there were always tractors going down 122 to connect to 20. The big issue is that some of those tractors have been using side streets to turn around or cut through for years, and the locals are finally tired of it. The city is looking at fixes, but the only one I've heard the City Manager propose was routing the truck traffic down Winter Street and through Kelly Square (which, if anyone has seen that intersection, screams bad idea).
