It's official! NHN's five GP9's are all done. :( They are for sale @ $40k to $50k, each, depending on condition. Will paint your color!
GP38's have delivered fuel savings well in excess of 30%, so the 9's are surplus.

That is interesting. The 16-645 in a GP38 is bigger than the 16-567 in a GP9. I wonder how EMD managed to make the 645 so much more fuel efficient than the 567? Or could it be that the GP9s are so old and worn out that they aren't as efficient as they were when they were new?

The answer is that although each of the 38's burns a LOT more fuel than each of the 9's, it only takes two 38's to do the work previously done by FOUR 9's.
