Over the past 15 years or so I have visited the abandoned South Weymouth Naval Air Station a couple of times. Whilst driving around the station I noticed that there were railroad tracks running across the west side of the field. I think they even crossed a runway. Also while driving around the outside of the base I noticed a warehouse used by the Coast Guard to store buoys that's also served by the same railroad. I think it might have been the New Haven and later the Old Colony. I'm not sure who owns the tracks now. My guess is that the siding on the base was used to deliver ordinance from Wompatuck or the ammo dump in Hingham. Does anyone know the history of the rail line that served the air station and the Coast Guard facility?
