The car was, and always has been, the property of Empire State Railway Museum. The only involvement CMRR has was that the Lion Gardiner occupied their tracks for so long.

Lion Gardiner departed Kingston today after 28 years in storage. It is headed west. We are happy it is being saved, but equally happy to have it leave the CMRR where it had become a liability. Many thanks to the IP for making this happen.

There are pictures of it in a thread on RYPN on the IP debacle, it's at a former auto plant there with a few other cars but it's in a separate location.
Nothing has been done to the car and it looks no different than when I remember walking up to it as it rotted next to NY-209 in maybe 2005.
