Late last week wife and daughter saw two single-level Amtrak cars headed south or west through Terre Haute at the end of a CSX freight. They saw the train at eighth ave., where the ex-NYC (east-west) and ex-C&EI (?, north south) have been combined since the Conrail CSX merger, so we're not sure whether they were headed west or south. My wife said the cars looked very old, with peeling paint, and that they were fluted steel with rectangular cross sections. So they were ex-somebody else before they were ex-Amtrak. I'm guessing they were headed west from Beech Grove, but it's just a guess. Does anyone know if Amtrak is selling off old Heritage fleet cars that were stored at Beech Grove or some other place ? Does anyone have a better guess east or north of Terre Haute, of why two coaches went west as freight?
