I don't get around town much anymore. Yesterday for the 1st time I saw the TA&W caboose at Sylvania Historical Village. Does anyone know if this car is accurate, I always thought their caboose was yellow not red! I have some pictures of their ALCO S-1 & a couple of box cars and they just have simple lettering on them not a herald. Actually this caboose looks like an ex-TTRR car with a road name change on it. :-)

Thanks

Hi,

The caboose is hard to picture without a picture!

This is ex-C&O 90781/TT 175.

I worked for the Toledo Termoil and the cabs were ex D&TSL i think. I got to ride in one a couple of times.

Looks to be in good condition for a wooden hack.

Yes, that's the one I originally wrote about. Those 2 pictures look exactly like the ones I took last year, even the angles are the same. Did you sneek into my house when I was sleeping & take my pictures?

I didn't post them because I have no Idea of how to do that!

It also is a dead ringer for a C&O caboose, and has the same number series. Given that the Toledo Terminal used to be a C&O subsidiary and the main connection for the Toledo & Western it's entirely possible a couple cabooses were transferred from the C&O to the TT and thence on to the T&W over the years.

Howdy,

I'd suggest it's more than entirely possible.

The 12 C&O cabooses sold to the TTRR were renumbered TT 170 -181. C&O 90781/TT 175/TA&W 90781 was built by the Standard Steel Car Co., Balto., MD, in 11/24, sold to the TT in 12/54, and sold to TA&W Rwy, Grand Rapids, OH, sometime after being retired in '75. It was still in Grand Rapids as late as 7/99.

Cheers, Roger

Shouldn't that read TLE&W? In which case, it's still sitting on the hill by the grain elevator.

Howdy,

You might be correct or ...: http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM2KJN .

Look on page 29 of your copy of the Dwight Jones & Phil Samuell, 2000, C&O Cabooses 90700 Series: Gambier, OH, Kokosing Gap Trail, 50 pages, ISBN 0-615-11342-7.

Here are C&O 90864 & 903667 cabooses at Grand Rapids, OH: http://cencalrails.railfan.net/c&o90864srk.jpg

The caboose at the Sylvania Historical Museum was never owned or operated by the Toledo Angola and Western Railroad. The caboose is a C&O. The TA&W never had a logo. To see the only two cabooses ever owned and operated by the TA&W... go to this web site http://taw101.home.comcast.net/~taw101/

The Toledo Angola and Western Railway and the Toledo Western Railway and not the same.
