I just spoke to one of the Norfolk Southern train crew members that works Delmar Pocomoke City turn. He said he was aware of the gun's movement, he did not know what date his train would bring it up from Pocomoke City. He said it would not receive any special handling and would be brought up to Delmar from Pocomoke City like any other load.

This is going to be a lot of fun, hopefully getting the chance to see something like this coming down the line. I live near Harrington, DE and am hoping to see it (if it is a daytime run). Originally I was excited to hear that it might be railed all the way to Lewes, DE but the plans are to have it trailered there from Georgetown. I am a newbie on here and want to say hi to everyone. My biggest day was back in 06 when I got to ride an Amtrak from Newark to Harrington (State Fairgrounds) and then on to Georgetown. I was like a kid getting his first toy train. I want very much to take some photos and post them on here as I also hope to see others join in on this exciting opportunity and historic event. Big RAILFAN here! Best regards to all, Earl.

I'd be curious to see that government auction site; never know if I'll want to put something like this in my back yard LOL.

I'll ask if some of my VA friends who have access can get some shots.

The only discouraging thought is that the "big gun" might be covered up but it will still be fun to see the train. If any of you out there get a chance, visit Cape Henlopen State Park when they do tours of Fort Miles, it is really an awesome experience. The weekend of April 28th there is going to be a reenactment and also dedication of the "big gun". I wanted to ask anyone out there who could help... I have an old (1990s) Bearcat handheld scanner and would love to have some frequencies to local activity (Harrington, Milford even Dover, DE) would be nice! Any help steering me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Saw this heading southbound today through Salisbury Maryland at the Carroll Street crossing at around 1500:

Norfolk Southern Research Train, Portage, Indiana.

Don't know if the presents of this train had anything to do with the movement of the gun. Obviously the locomotive in the picture above was not the same power use today.

No, it shouldn't. This train, running as a 904, is as of 1000AM running down to Indian River. It will return to Harrington and almost immediately head north for the NEC. It was rumored to run all the way down to Pocomoke yesterday. I saw a Youtube of it going south through DE yesterday, possibly near Townsend.

Apologies for being a little late on the news:
The 66-foot-long, 120-ton gun barrel attracted attention as it made its way through the Delmarva Peninsula from Cape Charles, Va., after crossing the Chesapeake Bay via a rail barge from the Norfolk, Va. area.

It was switched from the Norfolk Southern line to the Delaware Coast Line Railroad in Harrington for its rail trip to Georgetown before it is transported to Lewes.

HELP anyone, when I first went to this website about 15 minutes ago,I was directed to a page with about 10 or 12 new pictures of the big gun sitting either in Harrington or Georgetown and now I can't find them, can someone direct me to those pics again, thanks.

I am new to the site, registered as OldRedLeg.28 year railroad career with the PRSL,PC and retired from Conrail. My son served on the Mighty Mo for 3 +years part of which was escorting the oil tankers in the Persian Gulf in the late 80's.

Looks like a great site and hope to spend some time keeping up to date.

Thanks to all

The 16" gun will be dedicated in a ceremony at Fort Miles on Saturday, April 28th at 1PM. The public is invited. There will be about 100 WWII reenactors at Fort Miles over the weekend, both Allied and Axis, including some WWII vehicles. If you have never visited Fort Miles, it would be a good time to do so. You can go inside the 400' long concrete bunker that houses a 12" battleship sized gun, there will be tours.
