From yesterday's (Monday, August 22nd) Washington Post, an article titled "D.C. wants streetcars to roll by mid-2013":

Note that this is in reference to the H Street line, not the Anacostia route referenced in the title of this thread. Additionally, I believe the date is incorrect-it should read 2011, not 2010, as this article just appeared yesterday.

There is no way the H Street Benning Road line is going to open in 2013. There is no crossover at the Oklahoma Avenue end of the line. The ground for the substations hasn't broken. The ground for the car house hasn't broken. There has been no final decision on what option will be use for the eastern terminal at Union Station.

I’m curious, is it currently possible to see any of the future DC streetcars from a public area? Are some of them still stored in the Greenbelt yard?

I don't think so. When I went by Greenbelt yard in June the streetcars were stored on tracks on the east side of the yard. You could only see the roofs of the cars behind the subway cars.
