At the site of the former Camp Meade Road level crossing in Severn there is a pedestrian underpass that allows foot traffic to cross the NEC safely. I'm curious about this underpass because it appears to be one of the few underpasses along the NEC that isn't associated with a station and that appeared to directly replace a road crossing. Does anyone know the history of this underpass and why it was built after the level crossing was closed?

West of the tracks, the road is known as Severn Station Road. It may have been associated with the station.

Interesting. It's not clear where the station used to be at this site, so the underpass could have been part of the old PRR/PC station.
