Caterpillar rebuilds

Post by MR77100 » Fri Nov 27, 2009 8:59 pm

Today I took several hots of one of NS' three Caterpillar rebuilds, known as PR43C's. Does anyone know more about these units and why NS had them built. I know about the history of the TC-10's, (Transfer Cats), which had a Caterpillar engine installed fo yard service. Why would a railroad want to use a Caterpillar engine anyway?

If you look at the topic list on the forum, you will notice that the tread right below yours is a long discussion of these units...
