Well, to my thinking by definiition it's a rail-trail, but anyway this month's (April 2011) National Geographic print magazine has an article w/ the above title "Miracle Above Manhattan" (rolleyes). Anyway, it's kind of a breathless description (with pictures) of the High Line linear park in Manhattan, NY, and a description of the preservation efforts from the 1990s till the opening of the first park segment.
I find the seemingly random naming of various points on the linear park (denoted on the map on page 129) somewhat amusing, and perfectly in keeping w/ Bloomberg's NYC: "Philip & Lisa Maria Falcone Flyover", "Washington Grasslands", "Gansenvoort Woodlands", "Diller von Furstenberg Sundeck" - indeed!
