Georgia county interested in unused right-of-way
TRAINS: COLUMBUS, Ga. - Harris County commissioners agreed Tuesday to continue to look into the possibility of the county acquiring the roadbed from the Georgia Southwestern Railroad line that runs from Columbus into Meriwether County, according to a story in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer. Commissioner Harry Lange said the railroad, which no longer is using the line and is selling the rail and ties, has offered the 305.5 acres of right-of-way to the county at half price, and that a company attorney has valued it at more than $2.44 million. He said the company would accept a $400,000 down payment, plus four payments.
