Officials broke ground yesterday for a 2.6-mile extension to the Harlem Valley Rail Trail connecting the existing Mechanic Street Trailhead to the Metro-North Wassaic Train Station.
Dutchess County Executive William Steinhaus said the rail trail is being used by everyone from bikers and rollerbladers, to walkers and joggers. “We already have an eight-mile segment that has been done for a few years, which is enormously popular, not just for Dutchess County residents who want to get on the bike trail, but regionally people all across the Hudson River Valley and beyond the borders of New York State who come to the Amenia-Northeastern Millerton area to want to ride the Harlem Valley Rail Trail.”
Construction of the $634,000 project should be completed by this fall.
