There is a reason why the Brookhaven, NY entry on Wiki mentions the well known Long Island term 'Crookhaven':
and a series of scandals, led to a tarnished reputation of local politics accorded the nickname "Crookhaven".
(I removed part of the statement that stated "Prior to 2002" because - "PRIOR?" BWAHAHAHAHAHA!)

Also, don't underestimate the power of the Long Island NIMBYs, who whine incessantly and wet their pants about a new pizza place (it might bright customers to a shopping center), a gas station replacing...a gas station (vehicles might use it - just go with it), a Sonic in a underutilized large strip mall (the NIMBY complaints against this reasonable idea were so convoluted - beyond the default "It will increase traffic - that they defy analysis to this day), and so on. Oddly, they don't seem to complain about rather stupid ideas (lets open another Walgreens in a area with a CVS and Daune Reade already? Sure!)

There is a reason one poster (from Long Island IIRC) on this board called himself Nimby_Killer...

The Long Island Town governments, especially in Suffolk, always stick their hands out and want a piece of the action. Babylon with Coastal, Riverhead with 84 Lumber and now Brookhaven with the Terminal......

Sorry to bump an old thread but...
Brookhaven and the BRT seemed to have reached a settlement, and as the stop work order was lifted last year, is there any set date for completion of their expansion?
Also, what exactly are they building?
Thanks!!

It's kinda funny, this thread was first started for the Brookhaven National Lab and has nothing to do originally with BRT.

BRT will be celebrating their 5th anniversary this year. Hopefully the expansion will finally continue. Seems there was some give and take on both sides between Town of Brookhaven and BRT. Newsday had an article on it earlier in the week. I believe the biggest parcel is on the south side of the LIRR main and has yet to be touched.

Yeah, let's try to keep this topic exclusively for the Brookhaven spur, and give the BRT it's own space on here. With that said, when was the last NYA movement on the Brookhaven spur ????
