Is "certified siding" an NYA customer, or the nickname for a siding west of KO referenced above? Thanks.

Certified Siding is the siding on the west side of the Ronkonkoma Ave. overpass directly west of the station, no customer.

As far as the 50/60 power situation goes.. the RS40 now calls on at Pineaire which leaves 4 locomotives available for use there. The 40 double-ends with 2 units on each end during the day, and when night rolls around the 60 takes half of the power while the 50 takes the remaining.

Much like Atlantic Pipe in Hicksville, it (maybe)was a costumer way back when. Maybe before third rail was extended to KO.

A freight went though Medford this am at around 11ish. Are they running in the morning again?

I saw an article in the paper a few weeks ago about brt buying the land to the back of the current site. I saw that some people were objecting and suing. But it looks like some trees have been cleared already from what I can seefrom the road. Has work started on this already?

That is not the land that was purchased from Suffolk County. That land was already owned and scheduled for development. The land purchased from the county is on the south side of the Main Line.

Oh ok thanks. What is going to be on the land they are working on now behind brt?

The next part of the development. Still in design phase. Will have to include access to the newly acquired land as well.

Is Brookhaven still serviced M-F 9pm or later?

Thank you in advance.

The RS 60 has been going out there during the daytime again from Pineaire. It could change at anytime, but the RS 50 has been heading west at night with some decent size trains

Freightguy,

Thank you for the prompt response. I am guessing it goes east in the old timeslot passing through CI and KO between 10-11am?

Thanks again!

Not sure if anyone has been watching, but there has been a lot of legal buzz at the STB over the additional construction...

Scroll back through the past few months and you can see all of the back and forth between the Town of Broohkaven, the STB and the holding companies for USA Rail.

Check out this document in particular - it contains the original Freight Agreement between the LIRR and NYAR. It also has drawings of the expansion plan.

Wow looks like they really plan on expanding. Is that going to be a underpass for the railroad to get to site d?

What is wrong with the town of Brookhaven? For the immense positives BRT has brought to both the town and on a regional level, and BRT being essentially the only chance Long Island has at expanding its reliance on freight rail, it seems the town should be praising this terminal's expansion... not trying to stop it over petty claims of "sand mining" and the technicality over what constitutes a "spur track". After reading the claims by both parties in the two PDF documents above, there really does appear to be some bad blood and past friction between the town and BRT. However, the extension to Site C is UNDENIABLY a spur track as seen in both the track diagrams and satellite imagery, and its definition as a spur track has been established from the previous lawsuit. Move on, petty politicians, and stop trying to stop progress. The desperation of the town to make *any sort of case* out of this is evidenced in their emotionally-driven keywords used in their complaint: "massive"; "audacity"; "environmental disaster"; "unwarranted", and so many other words which attempt to tug at your heartstrings. BRT's claim merely sticks to the facts and numbers.

In the meantime, what's in the best interest of Long Island is completely ignored and contested by the "town", and Long Island's only chance to radically transform and improve its transportation schema is being threatened. Absolutely shameful, Town of Brookhaven. You are not worthy of having your town's name associated with this impressive, game-changing facility; it's truly a shame we have to call it "Brookhaven" Rail Terminal.

The Brookhaven politicians are probably complaining because they didn't get their palms greased for the expansion. Brookhaven in the past was known for crooked politics. Looks like some things never change on L I.
