Happened by luck to be on the head end of 2054 today, with a window even. Observed:

NYA train configured with power at the west end, loaded construction debris cars at the head, followed by empty aggregate hoppers, followed by about 5 more loaded C/D cars. The last two cars were on the ground, with the first upright and still attached to the end of the train, and the last tipped northwards off it's trucks, with the trucks right in the vicinity of Divide 1-21 crossover. LIRR had an almost inconceivably high number of people on the ground. Very quick response.

That's what I saw first hand, the incident is no doubt under investigation by the Agency.

And yeah, it could have turned out way way worse if the car had tipped the opposite way.

DB: Good picture of this derailed covered debris hopper car...This shows how bad a spot this was for this derailment - with the track damage
and the westbound Main Line track being blocked - luckily this car did not fall over on its other side blocking both tracks - or worse...

I noticed that this car was emptied and lifted onto a nearby street - will it be trucked out and scrapped or rerailed at another location?

The incident car and its trucks were spotted in Hicksville NY&A yard today, moved but not cut up. Car was still on its side!

This car at 1 time was a unit train "bathtub" gon in coal train service,"demoted" to C+D trash service,
it will be up to the car owner if that car is rebuilt or scrapped outright.
Since this car just flopped to the side,50/50 rebuild/scrap.
