Appears a new set of silver trucks were just delivered. They look like they're for a coach as opposed to an engine.

They are probably the newly rebuilt trucks that will replace the existing trucks under heavyweight business car CANNON BALL (PPCX 800049) which is stored at Whippany. These trucks were rebuilt by a skilled carman up in New England; now M&E will do the truck replacement after any and all necessary adaptive engineering work is completed.

This project (retrucking CANNONBALL) is on hold awaiting the delivery of six wheelsets for the car.

The CANNON BALL re-trucking project was scheduled to be completed, with a test run on NJ Transit during the week of February 5th.

I don't have any specific details on the planned test run, but a reasonable assumption would be an M&E locomotive with CANNON BALL from Morristown down to the MMC and back to Morristown, sometime between the morning and afternoon rush hours. So if you are trackside at the right time and place, you might get an interesting photo.

The retrucking of private car CANNON BALL was finally completed on Saturday March 10th and the car was delivered to NJ Transit's MMC for forwarding to Amtrak at Hudson. After a quick trip from New York to Washington on the rear of Amtrak 97, The Silver Meteor, CANNON BALL made it's commitment to participate in AAPRCO's 17th annual Washington Reception at Washington Union Station on Tuesday evening March 13th.

This was probably the most complex passenger car mechanical project that has been completed by the M&E Mechanical Department on a passenger car that is not owned by the M&E or an M&E official. Thus there were smiles all around ... the car owner, M&E Mechanical Dept, the contractor who rebuilt the trucks, and the Amtrak inspector ... as a multi-year project was successfully completed.

Now of course the car owner has not seen the final invoices for all of the labor and material expenses, but that is another story! :wink:
