Well, it looks like the idea of realigning the D&R branch and removing crossings in downtown Dover is not going to happen. A few years ago the County and Town of Dover were looking to relocate the line as part of the Route 46 and Route 15 intersection improvements. It included re-installation of part of the old DL&W Rockaway loop and a connection to the existing D&R east of Dover. The old right of way through town would have become a walking trail.

I have a set of the preliminary construction plans for the intersection and the first thing I see is that the RR is staying! Two new bridges will be built over the line. One on Route 15 and the other will replace the existing Route 46 bridge. Route 15 and 46 will intersect at grade with a traffic light. The bridge over NJT is also being replaced.

West Clinton Street (where the old freight house is) will become a dead end street.

Construction is expected to start in 2008 with completion in 2011.

Man that's goign to be a very very long time to complete since the two briges in Dover 1 on Salem St and the other currently under construction will be finished long boefre then. But the time those 2 bridges are finsihed electrifcation to the PM Yard and the Mt arlington Station wil lbe finsihed and if lucky cutoff construction will be well under way or close to completion.
